What benefit does this testing have to me?

Hopefully, you’ve come to this post for an answer to that question or one similar. Let us answer it. First, Sustainable InteriYours wants you to be an educated customer above all else. But still, there are several layers of benefits in what we offer:

Global Benefit - “Think Globally, Act Locally” this environmental philosophy from the ’80s and ’90s still holds today. With the discussion buzz words of carbon footprint, climate change, and energy savings repeatedly highlighted in the media, making changes at home positively impacts the world.
Being more energy efficient lowers energy bills by reducing costs. This lowers production needed from the plants that supply oil/natural gas/electricity. This lowers their pollution output. California building standards are at the forefront of making sure new buildings continue to use less energy. Their 2016 standards show homes use 28% less energy than homes built under the 2013 standard. And their 2019 standard shows homes using 7% less than the 2016 standard before rooftop solar. With rooftop solar, that 7% turns into 53% less energy usage over 2016. That will wind up being an equivalent to taking 115,000 fossil fuel cars off the road over 3 years.

Personal Benefit - Have you wondered why an area in your house has a cold floor, sitting against a particular wall doesn’t feel comfortable, or that it seems to be increasingly dusty in spots you wouldn’t think dust would accumulate? Being able to find and recognize these items will increase the comfort in your home.
Air leaks are terrible for comfort; it is like an open window when you want all the windows closed—cold in the wintertime, hot and humid in the summertime. Always bringing in outside allergens and decreasing the air quality. This wastes energy and therefore wastes money.

Monetary Benefit - With increased comfort comes a monetary payback. Some items have a shorter return than others, depending on what means you decide to use to fix any issues found. But they’ll all have a payback. Adding insulation slows the transfer of heat into or out of the home and keeps your heat in during the winter and the heat out during the summer. Air sealing leaks found from a blower door test keeps your HVAC system running efficiently because it’s not continually reheating or recooling the home from the outside air that has leaked in. Decreasing your monthly utility bills and allowing you to save for either more projects or retirement.

Our testing and consulting is the extent of what we offer. We won’t come in and tell you how you need this or need that just because it’s fast and easy. Choosing us to be at your home means that there are no high-pressure sales tactics. We provide data based on your home. A blower door test will tell you how leaky your home is. All of that infiltration and dust and humidity and heat gain/loss in the summer/winter from airflow alone. A basic consultation sits down with your energy bills and you and discusses ways to save by upgrading appliances or changing habits. Anyone can say, “You need more insulation!” But with a thermal camera, we can show you where it’s needed. With our Online Energy Audit, we can also show you what the approximate annual savings for adding insulation, changing windows, upgrading your lighting, or upgrading your HVAC System. Since we don’t perform or sell anything outside of the test and consult, it allows you, the customer, to be empowered with the information to decide on which way to go. Feel free to drop an email to info@siy.biz or fill out the form in our Contact Us section and schedule a consultation, or do the Online Energy Audit. We will provide you with the information and guidance to tackle your project cost-effectively for both your wallet and your energy savings.
